Historia GR (A), Latin för humaniorastudenter: fortsättningskurs, 7,5 hp

Latin is not only the language of ancient Rome, medieval scholarship, or the divine liturgy of the Catholic church; it is one of the cornerstones of European civilization. This is evident from the number of Latin words we use in everyday life, regardless of what our mother tongue can be, and Latin is especially valuable for students and scholars of humanities. This course is designed for the students who have already taken the course “A Taste of Latin: An Introduction to the Latin Language for Students of Humanities.” During this course, we will finish our textbook, Wheelock’s Latin, and — dis faventibus (“by the grace of the gods”) — will proceed to reading and interpreting original Latin texts. After completing this course, you will have a firm grasp of the elementary Latin vocabulary, conjugation patterns, and basic grammatical categories, which would provide you with all the necessary tools to approach whatever Latin sources you might wish to explore.
