Job description
As an associate senior lecturer, you will have the opportunity to develop both your scientific and pedagogical skills. The position encompasses research (70%) and teaching and administrative tasks (30%) in an environment that offers good access to advanced research infrastructure and good opportunities for collaboration across subject boundaries and to influence the research environment.

As the position will involve recruiting a doctoral student, you are also expected to be able to contribute to his/her supervision. Teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels is part of your duties, and you are expected, within the framework of the collegial work, to also actively contribute to the development of the faculty's educational offerings.

In research, you are expected to contribute in a corresponding way to the development of the research environment within your subject area and to actively seek external funding to further strengthen research activities. Overall, you are offered ample opportunities to develop and establish long-term research activities that are linked to Mid Sweden University's vision of being a global university with regional commitment where we conduct research and educate for life.

Requirements
Pursuant to Chapter 4, Section 4a of the Higher Education Ordinance, to be eligible for employment as an associate senior lecturer, you must have a Degree of Doctor or possess the equivalent academic competence. Consideration should primarily be given to applicants who have been awarded a Degree of Doctor or who have gained the equivalent competence within seven years prior to the application deadline for this associate senior lecturer position, see Mid Sweden University's Employment Procedures.Mid Sweden University’s employment procedures.

The qualification refers to a doctoral degree within, or closely related to, one of the postgraduate subjects covered by the faculty's activities, see Main subject list of departments and the websites of the departments concerned.

Assessment
The applicant's scientific and pedagogical skills must be sufficiently good, both qualitatively and quantitatively. An associate senior lecturer employed within the Faculty of Science, Technology and Media at Mid Sweden University must be assessed as having very good future scientific potential.

For the current position, extra emphasis will be placed on scientific skills, but the degree of pedagogical skills and other skills of importance for the content and duties of the position will also be taken into account.

An absolute requirement is experience in research that is related to some part of the faculty's current research. Scientific skills are demonstrated, for example, through publications in peer-reviewed journals where scientific independence is demonstrated in the form of contributions with valuable ideas and initiatives. A brief description of how the applicant's research is related to one or more of the faculty's research groups should be included in the application.

Also of merit is a documented ability to obtain research funding in competition, especially from large and well-reputed funding bodies.

Pedagogical skills are demonstrated primarily through documented experience of teaching, supervising and examining students at different levels of education. Also of merit is documented experience of planning, developing and following up on teaching as well as experience of different forms of work and teaching.

Other merits are primarily documented experience of collaborating with the surrounding society in both research and education as well as experience of various management assignments and mentoring.

Personal qualities
Research within NMT is often conducted in interdisciplinary environments and in close collaboration with various regional, national and international actors. Therefore, strong collaborative and relationship-building abilities, along with excellent communication skills in both speech and writing, are highly valued.

Other assessment criteria
Given the international context of the faculty's research, proficiency in English, both spoken and written, is required. Also of great importance is a clear drive to contribute to a good collegial work environment through a positive attitude towards academic citizenship, presence on campus and a strong commitment to both research and education.

Employment process
Processing of the appointment will comply with the provisions in Chapter 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance, and will be carried out in accordance with Mid Sweden University’s Employment Procedures.

Terms of employment
This is a full-time, fixed-term position for four years, starting on 2025-10-31 or as agreed, but not beyond 2029-12-31. Provisions regarding employment as an associate senior lecturer can be found in the Higher Education Ordinance (1993:100), Chapter 4, Section 12a.

As an associate senior lecturer you may apply for promotion to the position of senior lecturer. This promotion entails permanent employment as a senior lecturer. The subject domain for the senior lectureship must be the same as or closely related to the subject domain for this position. Applications for promotion to senior lecturer are processed on the same grounds and according to the same quality criteria as for other senior lecturer appointments, however, completed higher education pedagogy training of at least 15 credits is an absolute requirement, as is meeting the faculty's minimum requirements regarding teaching hours and experience in course responsibility.
