Associate Senior Lecturer in AI‑based Computer Vision

At the department, education is conducted in the subjects of computer engineering, electronics, electrical engineering and sound production. The research at the department takes place at the research center Sensible Things that Communicate (www.miun.se/stc) and deals with sensor-based systems and services for use within the Internet of Things and artificial intelligence.

Job description
Mid Sweden University is looking for a talented and motivated Associate Senior Lecturer with a strong background in computer vision, image processing, machine and deep learning.

The position includes both teaching and research in approximately equal parts. Teaching includes traditional and AI-based computer vision and image processing, related courses, as well as administrative tasks. The research involves carrying out innovative scientific studies with a focus on model-based machine learning, e.g. algorithm unrolling, and new technologies for deep learning, and it includes theoretical analysis, practical experiments, algorithm design and implementation in software as well as documentation in scientific articles. The work also includes the formulation of research applications.

The research is conducted in the research group Realistic 3D (www.miun.se/realistic3d) within the research center STC (www.miun.se/stc). The applicant will collaborate with national and international partners in academia and industry.   
 

Requirements
Pursuant to Chapter 4, Section 4a of the Higher Education Ordinance, to be eligible for employment as an associate senior lecturer, you must have a Degree of Doctor or possess the equivalent academic competence. Consideration should primarily be given to applicants who have been awarded a Degree of Doctor or who have gained the equivalent competence within the seven years prior to the application deadline for this associate senior lecturer position, see Mid Sweden University’s employment procedures and the Rules and instructions for employment of Associate senior lecturers at the Faculty of Science, Technology and Media.

The applicant must have a doctorate in computer science, computer engineering, or equivalent knowledge.

 

Assessment 
The quality and quantity of the applicant’s academic and educational aptitude must be of a sufficiently good level. Associate senior lecturers employed at the Faculty of Science, Technology and Media at Mid Sweden University must be considered to have excellent future academic potential, in accordance with the Faculty of Science, Technology and Media’s Instructions for employment of associate senior lecturers 

The candidate shall be able to demonstrated expertise in computer vision, image processing, machine and deep learning and optimization algorithms; very good mathematical knowledge and skills; very good skills in software programming and implementation of machine and deep learning, through publications in highly ranked journals and conferences, such as IEEE, ACM and CVF.

Previous experience in the following areas is advantageous: model-based machine learning, inverse problems and related algorithms, photogrammetry.

Personal qualities
Personal qualities required for the position are analytical, systematic, communicative, and ability to work independently and in a group, initiative-taking, service-oriented and goal-oriented. 

Other assessment criteria 
Other assessment criteria include major software projects, as well as proven excellent written and oral communication skills in English.

 

Employment process
Processing of the appointment will comply with the provisions in Chapter 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance, and will be carried out in accordance with Mid Sweden University’s Employment Procedures .

 

Terms of employment 
This is a full-time position (100%) during four years, starting as agreed. Provisions regarding employment as an associate senior lecturer can be found in the Higher Education Ordinance (1993:100), Chapter 4, Section 12a.

As an associate senior lecturer, you may apply for promotion, which means a permanent position as senior lecturer. This promotion entails permanent employment as a senior lecturer. The subject domain for the senior lectureship must be the same as or closely related to the subject domain for this position. Applications for promotion to senior lecturer are processed on the same grounds and according to the same quality criteria as for other senior lecturer appointments.
