Job description
The position includes 70% research and 30% education. You will strengthen the research environment and develop the education within one of the faculty’s discipline areas.
Doctoral supervision will be part of your responsibilities.
The position is a fixed-term appointment for four years. Upon request, the position holder may be evaluated for promotion as senior lecturer.
Requirements
Eligibility for employment as an Associate senior lecturer, according to Chapter 4, Section 4a of the Higher Education Ordinance, requires a doctoral degree or equivalent scientific competence. Priority is given to those who obtained their degree no more than seven years before the application deadline. See Mid-Sweden University's employment regulations and the Faculty of Human Sciences' rules and guidelines.
Eligibility refers to a doctoral degree within one of the faculty’s discipline areas.
Additional requirements
The position requires proficiency in English, both spoken and written.
Great emphasis is also placed on personal qualities such as social competence and strong collaborative skills.
Through their work, the applicant is expected to contribute to the development of the discipline area.
Assessment
All competencies must be documented, verified, and clearly presented in the application.
Scientific Expertise in relevant faculty’s discipline areas will be assessed based on scientific output, research quality, and impact.
- Breadth and depth of research refer to both the quality and scope of the research conducted.
- Independence and originality are assessed based on innovative contributions to knowledge development.
- Productivity is measured by the number and quality of publications, secured external research funding, and participation in scientific collaborations.
The evaluation primarily considers published scientific works in internationally recognized journals, conference proceedings, and peer-reviewed book chapters. With a particular emphasis on the publications where the applicant is the main author.
Applicants whose research plan aligns clearly with the research environments and disciplines at the Faculty will be prioritized
The ability to secure external research funding in competitive environments and international research impact is is meritorious.
Engagement in the academic community and international research experience—such as a research stay at an institution other than the one where you earned your PhD—are also considered meritorious qualifications
Research collaborations that support knowledge sharing and practical use are considered in the evaluation.
Teaching Expertise is assessed based on the ability to plan, deliver, and evaluate teaching, as well as to supervise and examine students at all educational levels. A reflective approach is particularly emphasized.
Particular merit is given to the development of learning environments and educational materials.
Additionally, collaboration with society is regarded as a merit, particularly an experience in involving external actors in the planning and execution of education.
Collaboration skills and academic leadership are assessed based on collegiality and contributions to a positive work environment. Merits include engagement within and beyond one's own discipline, experience with examinations, seminars, and academic leadership roles. Mentorship and efforts supporting others’ career development are highly valued
Employment process
Processing of the appointment will comply with the provisions in Chapter 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance, and will be carried out in accordance with Mid Sweden University’s Employment Procedures.
Terms of employment and entry
This is a full-time, fixed-term position for four years, starting on 2025-10-31 or as agreed, but not beyond 2029-10-31 or as agreed.
Regulations concerning employment as an Associate Senior Lecturer are set out in the Swedish Higher Education Ordinance (1993:100), Chapter 4, Section 12a.

Promotion
An associate senior lecturer at Mid-Sweden University may apply for promotion to senior lecturer no later than six months before the end of the fixed-term appointment. Promotion results in a permanent position as a senior lecturer. The discipline area for the senior lectureship must be the same or closely related to the discipline area of the senior lectureship.
The promotion process follows the same principles and quality criteria as the recruitment of senior lecturers. Teaching expertise will be assessed by external experts.
To be eligible for promotion, the applicant must have completed a course in higher education pedagogy equivalent to 15 ECTS credits, or at least 10 weeks of full-time studies.

The application must include a CV, a statement of documented scientific and teaching qualifications (including relevant certificates), a full list of publications, and up to five specifically highlighted publications (also marked in the full list). A research project plan must also be included, outlining the purpose, research questions, theoretical framework and methods, relation to current research, and a timeline with a publication plan. The plan should be 3–5 pages (A4)..
