Circular Design Project

Whats the project  about?

In a sustainable development we must redesign the way we produce, consume and recycle. From a global perspective, we must develop innovative systems and ideas for a sustainable food system. This year's task is to draw attention to UN Sustainable Development Goal 12 – Responsible consumption and production, and Goal 2 – No hunger, by creating a circular design project. In this project, we explore new ways to create sustainable and long-lasting value within the food sector in a circular economy. Here, circular design strategies could meet a need in society and make a difference in the future food industry, and in this context creativity is important. 

Design thinking as a method and tool is used to examine different ideas and concepts with environmental, social and economic aspects of the problem. You as a student will explore what circular design is, showcase organisations and ideas at the forefront of the circular design approach within sustainable food systems. You will develop concepts for a sustainable food future, and this could be related to for example the everyday regional food industry, food waste from restaurants, innovative food tech cafés, or circular business models for future food. These sustainable solutions could include for example concept stores, an increase in seasonal food at schools or cultivation at home. 
  
The aim to achieve: Create and present a circular design concept with the aim to change attitudes and behaviour regarding sustainable consumption and production for a sustainable future food system. 
 
The results of the project: present a conceptualized idea that could make a change in society related to SD goal 12. Further, how to communicate this concept in order to influence and implement these changes. 

We welcome participants with multiple disciplines to join the project. Study areas below are examples of areas that could benefit the project.  
 
Social sciences: recognise and understand the impact design has on society and social change. 
Environmental sciences: have a brief understanding of the mechanisms causing change on our environment. 
Business and economics: have an understanding about circular economy. 
 
Participants could also have a background in other areas that may be impacted by climate change.
