Aim

The student will develop their ability to select scientific methods, critically evaluate and communicate scientific works.

Course objectives

After the course the student shall be able to:
- apply proven methods to write scientific papers,
- search and review scientific literature,
- communicate scientific results, both orally and in writing,
- formulate research problems,
- create a project plan based on a research problem,
- select a scientific methodology for a given research problem,
- reflect on the strengths and weaknesses of different scientific methods,
- discuss ethical and societal aspects of research results.

Engineering Physics MA, Project I in Materials Science, 6 credits.

The selection process is in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance and the local order of admission.

Lectures, seminars and self-studies.

Examination form

P101: Written report and oral presentation, 4 Credits
Grade scale: Seven-grade scale, A, B, C, D, E, Fx and F. Fx and F represent fail levels.
Scientific article and oral presentation of own research work.

S101: Series of seminars, 2 Credits
Grade scale: Fail (U) or Pass (G)
Discussion of project plan and chosen research methodology, as well as analysis and discussion of published article.

Examination restrictions

Students are entitled to three examination opportunities within one year according to the examination format given in this version of the course syllabus. After the one-year period, the examination format given in the most recent version of the course syllabus applies.

Seven-grade scale, A, B, C, D, E, Fx and F. Fx and F represent fail levels.
