Aim
The course aims at improving the students´ proficiency in the Swedish language. The students will improve their grammar, vocabulary and ability to express themselves in Swedish
Course objectives
Having completed the course, students are expected to be able to:
- communicate in spoken Swedish in different situations
- understand written and spoken texts with the aid of a dictionary
- account for and apply the basic grammatical structure of the Swedish language in both written and spoken texts
- account for Swedish cultural and social life
Content
The course consists of lectures, lessons and practical exercises in oral and written communication. The student will also receive training in pronunciation, oral communication, listening and reading comprehension and basic text production. The course will improve the students´ knowledge of the Swedish society, its customs and history.
Entry requirements
General entry requirements. In addition, the course Svenska språket, Svenska för utländska studerande I, 7,5 credits, or corresponding proficiency, is required. This course is for students with Swedish as a second language who want to continue their studies at Mid Sweden University.

Selection rules and procedures
The selection process is in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance and the local order of admission.
Teaching form
Teaching comprises lectures, lessons and group exercises. Attendance is compulsory.
Examination form
Students’ oral and written proficiency will be continuously assessed. The course ends with an oral and a written examination.
Apart from being entitled to one regularly scheduled examination at the conclusion of the course, the student is entitled to two additional examination occasions, within the span of one year. On all three occasions, the examination should be based on the same texts. If there are special reasons for it, a student who has failed the same examination twice has the right to request a change of examiner or examination form before the re-sit examination. A student who passes an exam may not re-sit it in order to be awarded a better grade.

Seven-grade scale, A, B, C, D, E, Fx and F. Fx and F represent fail levels.
