Aim

The course offers an introduction to the field of International Politics in terms of its main theoretical strands and the forms of international political decision
making.

Course objectives

After completion of the course the student is expected to:
- have a basic knowledge of the fundamental theories of international politics;
- have an understanding of the fundamental empirical findings and research
within the field of international politics;
- be able to make an independent analysis of the contemporary development of
international politics based on the understanding of theories and research
findings in the field.

Content

The course focuses on the structure of the international political system and its main actors and institutions. The course further introduces the main theories in the field.

Entry requirements

There are no specific entry qualifications for this course apart from general university entrance qualifications. However, priority will be given to those candidates who have at least one academic year or the equivalent in higher education studies.

Selection rules and procedures

The selection process is in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance and the local order of admission.

Teaching form

The course consists of lectures, seminars and assignments.

Examination form

Assement may be a written test, an oral test, a paper, other written assignments, or a combination of one or more of the above.

Grading system

Seven-grade scale, A, B, C, D, E, Fx and F. Fx and F represent fail levels.

Other information

A student who fails an examination has the right to retake it in order to obtain a pass mark or a pass mark with distinction.

A student who fails the examination on two occasions has the right to apply for a new examination with another teacher.

Those students who pass the course are not eligible to retake examination in order to achieve higher grades.
