Aim

The course offers an introduction to the field of International Politics, its main theoretical strands and the structure of the international political system.

Course objectives

After completion of the course the student is expected to:
- be able to describe the basic features of the most prominent theories in international politics
- be able to describe the basic features of the empirical findings and research within the field of international politics
- be able to describe contemporary developments in international politics

Content

The course focuses on the structure of the international political system and its main actors, arenas and institutions. The course also introduces the most prominent theories in the field.

Entry requirements

There are no specific entry qualifications for this course apart from general university entrance qualifications. However, priority will be given to those candidates who have at least one academic year or the equivalent in higher education studies.

Selection rules and procedures

The selection process is in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance and the local order of admission.

Teaching form

The course consists of lectures, seminars and assignments.

Examination form

1000: International Politics, 7.5 Credits
Grade scale: Seven-grade scale, A, B, C, D, E, Fx and F. Fx and F represent fail levels.

Assement may be a written test, an oral test, a paper, other written assignments, or a combination of one or more of the above.

Seven-grade scale, A, B, C, D, E, Fx and F. Fx and F represent fail levels.

Other information

A student who fails an examination has the right to retake it in order to obtain a pass mark or a pass mark with distinction.

A student who fails the examination on two occasions has the right to apply for a new examination with another teacher.

Those students who pass the course are not eligible to retake examination in order to achieve higher grades.
