Aim

The aim of the course is to provide the student with basic knowledge about the research process as well as scientific methodology in the field of environmental science.
The course aims in particular to develop and train the ability to independently handle environmental science work from idea to implementation.

Course objectives

After completing the course, the student is expected to:
- be able to formulate an essay problem independently
- be able to choose the appropriate method and formulate defined and reasonable goals for the work based on the selected problem
- be able to draw up a structured project plan that can serve as a steering document for the project work
- be able to produce a written report / essay within stipulated time and conduct an oral presentation of the work
- be able to conduct an opposition to other work

Content

The course is carried out in the form of an independent environmental science work. Literature studies and fact collection are carried out independently. The work must include elements of own analysis and systematic problem solving. The work will train the student's ability to initiate, plan, organize, execute and take responsibility for a project as a whole.

Entry requirements

Environmental Science BA (B), 30 credits, or Environmental Science BA (B), 15 credits and Environmental Engineering BA (B), 15 credits.

Selection rules and procedures

The selection process is in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance and the local order of admission.

Teaching form

The teaching is conducted in the form of an independent work, whose content, organization and implementation at the start of the course must be approved by the course management. A supervisor is appointed for each work. Report writing, oral presentation and opposition to another's work are compulsory elements.

Examination form

1000: Oral presentation, 1 Credits
Grade scale: Fail (U) or Pass (G)

2000: Opposition, 1 Credits
Grade scale: Fail (U) or Pass (G)

3000: Written report, 13 Credits
Grade scale: Fail (U), Pass (G), or Pass with distinction (VG)
