Environmental Science BA (B), Environmentally Driven Innovation, 15 Credits

Aim

The students should acquire a broad understanding of product, innovation and business development, and knowledge of technology diffusion, environmental driving forces and environmental markets. The teaching is problem-oriented aiming at students require the theoretical and practical skills in project implementation.

Course objectives

After completing the course, students are expected to:
- Understand the innovation process.
- Understand how environmental expertise can be used in product and business development.
- Understand the entire chain from raw materials, through production and business development to waste product from an environmental, a technical and an economic perspective.
- Be able to conduct basic financial calculations and market assessments.
- Be able to perform simple life-cycle analyses and environmental assessments.
- Have the ability to establish a product development plan and a business plan.

Content

The course covers basic knowledge of functional needs, the environment as a driving force, environmental markets and the development of ideas, entrepreneurship, strategic business planning and the innovation process. The course also includes elements of production, marketing and basic production and investment calculations.

Selection rules and procedures

The selection process is in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance and the local order of admission.

Teaching form

Teaching consists of lectures and seminars. The course includes a project that the student performs in groups, under supervision. Problem-based group studies may occur when the course is carried out as distance learning.

Examination form

P300: Project, written examination, 8 Credits
Grade scale: Seven-grade scale, A, B, C, D, E, Fx and F. Fx and F represent fail levels.

P400: Project, oral examination, 3 Credits
Grade scale: Seven-grade scale, A, B, C, D, E, Fx and F. Fx and F represent fail levels.

W200: Web examination, 4 Credits
Grade scale: Seven-grade scale, A, B, C, D, E, Fx and F. Fx and F represent fail levels.

Grading system

Seven-grade scale, A, B, C, D, E, Fx and F. Fx and F represent fail levels.
