Aim
The student will develop their ability to select scientific methods, critically evaluate and communicate scientific works.
Course objectives
After the course the student shall be able to:
- apply proven methods to write scientific papers,
- search and review scientific literature,
- communicate scientific results, both orally and in writing,
- formulate research problems,
- create a project plan based on a research problem,
- select a scientific methodology for a given research problem,
- reflect on the strengths and weaknesses of different scientific methods,
- discuss ethical and societal aspects of research results, and
- communicate scientific work via a poster.

Entry requirements
Degree of Bachelor/Bachelor of Science in Engineering of at least 180 credits (180 ECTS) in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Production Engineering, Engineering Physics or equivalent. At least 5 credits (ECTS) in each of Materials Science, Mechanics and Structural Mechanics and at least 15 credits (ECTS) Mathematics.
Proven language proficiency in English: English course 6 from Swedish Upper Secondary School (Gymnasium) or equivalent.

The selection process is in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance and the local order of admission.

Examination form
P101: Poster presentation, 1.5 Credits
Grade scale: Fail (U) or Pass (G)
Poster presentation of project.
R101: Written report and oral presentation, 4 Credits
Grade scale: Seven-grade scale, A, B, C, D, E, Fx and F. Fx and F represent fail levels.
Scientific article and oral presentation of project.
S101: Series of seminars, 2 Credits
Grade scale: Fail (U) or Pass (G)
Discussion of project plan and chosen research methodology, as well as analysis and discussion of a published article.

Examination restrictions
