Aim
The aim of this course is to provide an overview of common health problems in performance sport, including their epidemiology, mechanisms, prevention and treatment strategies. Covering topics such as immune function and infections, relative energy deficiency in sport (REDs), mental health and health risks in extreme environments and special populations, the course content is based on the latest international research and practice guidelines and integrates theory with clinical and practitioner perspectives.
Course objectives
After completing the course, students will be able to:
- acquire and consolidate relevant information from the research literature on the epidemiology, pathogenesis, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of common health problems in performance sport
- reflect upon their own values and approach to supporting health within performance sport
- engage in dialogue with different stakeholders in the sporting community
- adapt their written and verbal communication skills to adress relevant audiences

Entry requirements
A Bachelor degree with at least 180 credits, including a degree project of at least 15 credits, in Sports Science, Sports Medicine or Physiotherapy.
OR
A Bachelor degree consisting of at least 180 credits, including a degree project of at least 15 credits, and a minimum of 60 credits in one or more of the following
subjects: clinical epidemiology, exercise physiology, testing methods in sports
science, kinesiology, biomechanics, coaching and leadership, sports nutrition,
sports medicine, training sciences.

Selection rules and procedures
The selection process is in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance and the local order of admission.
Teaching form
A range of teaching methods will be used including lectures, teacher- and student-led seminars, group work and independent studies. The course will be delivered online and in English.
Examination form
1101: Module 1: Student-led seminars, 2.5 Credits
Grade scale: Fail (U), Pass (G), or Pass with distinction (VG)
Group task involving preparatory work and participation in all seminars.
2101: Module 2: Clinical seminars, 1 Credits
Grade scale: Fail (U) or Pass (G)
Active participation in live seminar discussions.
3101: Module 3: Individual written assignment 1 with possible oral follow-up, 1 Credits
Grade scale: Fail (U), Pass (G), or Pass with distinction (VG)
Reflective piece.
4101: Module 4: Individual written assignment 2 with possible oral follow-up, 3 Credits
Grade scale: Fail (U), Pass (G), or Pass with distinction (VG)
Scientific literature study.
The course is examined via four compulsory modules, involving preparatory group work, presentations and participation in seminars, and individual written assignments.
