Aim
The course aims to give the student a good understanding for how experienced and communicative aspects in products can be analyzed, described and understood from a semiotic perspective. Also to strengthen the students' ability to apply these aspects in their design work.
Course objectives
After completing the course, the student should:
- be able to analyze products from a a product semiotic perspective
- in analysis be able to name active codes in the interaction human - artifact
- be able to apply the theoretical basics of product semiotics in practical design work
- use personas and imageboards as a tool in a design process
- be able to independently and experimentally investigate different design solutions for specific target groups and contexts linked to a brand
Content
- Introduction to the subject area and historical overview.
- Perception and codes. How one interprets and understands with the help of the senses.
- Product semiotics theory.
- Product semiotics analysis.
- Functionality, usability and satisfaction.
- Target group analysis, personas, imageboards.
- Brand analysis.
