Aim

The aim of the course is to introduce the tools used in the area of layout within information and communication work and fundamental knowledge in imaging with the aid of relevant imaging software. The course results in an individually produced printed matter.

Course objectives

After passing the course students shall
- be able to recognise and apply the ground principles of typography and layout.
- be able to manage basic editing program tasks.
- be able to recognise and apply basic image theory.
- have basic knowledge in an image editing program.
- have produced an individual printed matter with an overall perspective of the various text parts, message and image.

Content

Fundamental rules of layout and typography.
Practical exercises in layout program.
Fundamental knowledge about program for imaging.
Practical work with editing images.

Selection rules and procedures

The selection process is in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance and the local order of admission.

Examination form

An individual graphic assignment (printed matter) will be used to evaluate the student. To pass this course, the student must satisfactorily complete the “individual printed matter” as well as two assignments. Grading is based on the individual printed matter. The individual printed matter will be graded as to typography, layout, idea level, actual implementation, and the final result. Additional instructions regarding examination are included in the course syllabus presented at the course start.

Grading system

Seven-grade scale, A, B, C, D, E, Fx and F. Fx and F represent fail levels.

Other information

Attendance is required at certain lectures and exercises, as well as at all seminars and critiques.

The course is given in English.
