Aim
The aim of the course is for students to acquire a basic knowledge of how to capture and process digital photographs.
Course objectives
After passing the course students will:
- know the basics of photography
- be able to make exposures for digital photography
- demonstrate basic knowledge of camera technology
- be able to practice the workflow for digital photography
- be able to perform editing of digital photographic images
Content
The course deals with:
- knowledge of digital exposure techniques and digital workflow
- processing of digital images
- editing digital image files and relevant tools
- presentation of images
- photo technology
- lighting
Entry requirements
At least one year of successfully completed full-time study at university level.
Description
The purpose of the course is to learn techniques of digital photography and to experience different photographic scenarios in studio and uncontrolled environments.
The course will introduce typical lighting and technical challenges as well as explore the digital workflows used by professional photographers.
Selection rules and procedures
The selection process is in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance and the local order of admission.
Teaching form
The course will include lectures, seminars and practical assignments.
Examination form
The grade is based on individual assignments which can include written, oral and practical examinations. Mandatory attendance applies to certain lectures, tutorials and exercises as well as at all seminars and lectures. Absence and late submission of data may negatively affect the course grade.

Unless otherwise specified, all written submissions shall be used using well-known source systems such as Harvard, Oxford (notes) or APA-Style (Harvard variant).
The examiner has the right to offer alternative examination arrangements to students who have been granted the right to special support by Mid Sweden University’s disabilities adviser.
Grading system
Seven-grade scale, A, B, C, D, E, Fx and F. Fx and F represent fail levels.
Other information
Eventual expenses for travel, materials and technical equipment are paid for by the student.
