Aim
The aim of the course is to develop the ability to:
- understand written business English
- understand background and context of various types of business English
- produce different types of business correspondence and documents in
different styles
Course objectives
After completing the course the student should be able to:
- understand written business English
- show the ability to use various reference material and tools to improve his/her
business English
- understand background and context of various types of business English
- produce different types of business correspondence and documents in different
styles as well as independently adjust writing style according to different
business contexts and purposes
- cooperate with other students in order to improve and develop his/her own
and other students’ written business English
Content
The course consists of:
- Language exercises in a functional context
- Written business English in different styles with differing purposes
- CV, applications, memoranda, reports, etc
- Process oriented writing and student cooperation

Admission to the course requires general admission requirements as well as Sv B/Sv2 B and English B

Selection rules and procedures
The selection process is in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance and the local order of admission.
Teaching form
The course is designed so that student learning occurs within a process. This means that the majority of the modules include obligatory group work and written or oral discussions. All hand-in assignments (group and individual) and group discussions should be completed according to the specific module’s schedule.
Examination form
The course is examined through continuous assessment of oral and written assignments.
Students are entitled to scheduled examination opportunities during the course period as well two extra opportunities within one year. Extra examination opportunities are based on the same course literature. Students who have failed an examination or the course twice have the right to another examiner. A student who has passed an examination or course is not allowed re-examination in order to gain a higher grade.

Grading system
Seven-grade scale, A, B, C, D, E, Fx and F. Fx and F represent fail levels.
Other information
The course is a general course and cannot replace a course as part of English GR (A), 30 credits. The course does not provide eligibility to courses at a higher level.
