Mathematics
Research in mathematics at Mid Sweden University is conducted mostly in the areas complex analysis, discrete mathematics, and technical-scientific calculations. Within complex analysis, the research focuses on preferably functions of several complex variables. Some special areas are pluripotential theory, functional algebra and integral presentation of holomorphic functions.
Discrete mathematics, unlike complex analysis, is essentially the study of discrete rather than continuous concepts. Such discrete concepts arise naturally within for example computer science, chemistry, biology and mathematical optimization and techniques.
Technical-scientific calculations are a research area in applied mathematics for the development and analysis of efficient algorithms for solving mathematically formulated problems that cannot be solved analytically (where the solution can be given a closed form). The problems can come from both technology areas and science.
Important research areas in technical-scientific calculations are numerically linear algebra, optimization, numerical methods for differential equations and inverse problems.
