What about the boys? An action study focusing on boys' school results in St Olof's school.
The specific purpose of the project is to increase the merit values of of boys in particular, at the selected school and to give the teachers an increased didactic competence improve teaching for both boys and girls.
Whether you are a boy or a girl, it is important as a human being to be able to be independent, secure, and belong to a social context. Research shows that for many boys, life in school is challenging. For the “group” boys to succeed in general, it has proved important that the school succeed in building safe environments and supportive structures. At the school where the intended project is to be conducted, there is a difference of 37 points in merit value between boys and girls (final grade from year 6). Against this background, we want to conduct action research with a focus on the teaching practices with the aim of increasing educators 'knowledge of boys' conditions and needs, which is intended to reduce the gap between boys and girls. The goal of the project is to increase teachers' understanding of boys' conditions and needs and to provide support in the development of teaching strategies. Furthermore, the project intends to work with method development in order to be able to produce support material that can be shared with other schools after the completion of the project.
