Strategies for increased reading motivation among students in K‑6
This research- and development project aims to develop and try methods, tools, and strategies to increase students' interest in reading. The project is carried out in collaboration with staff at Böle school in Timrå municipality and researchers in education at Mid Sweden University.
The project is based on a collaboration established in 2021, aiming to increase teachers' knowledge of reading comprehension and increase students' motivation for reading. In the project, the school's staff and researchers will carry out various practical development and research projects. The method used is action research. To answer the research questions, the researchers in the project will also collect empirical evidence through surveys, interviews, and field notes. These will be analyzed through reflexive thematic analysis. The project hopes to contribute to an increased interest in reading among the students at Böle school, contribute to the development of teachers' knowledge in the field of reading comprehension and reading motivation, and contribute relevant and new research to the research area. What is specific about this research project is that a whole school is involved: after-school center, preschool class, and grades 1-6. It is rare for entire schools to be the subject of research in reading studies.
