Sports Tech Innovation Initiative
Sports Tech Innovation Initiative - STII, is a joint venture between Mid University and the business community, which will strengthen renewal and competitiveness primarily with companies engaged in innovative products in the industry and in the outdoors sector.
A large number of companies in the industry and outdoor sector use modern textiles and other materials in their products. Development is rapidly advancing in material characteristics, product development, production methods and sustainability, which places great demands on companies to continue developing their ability and knowledge.
The research is based on the companies' need for enhanced product verification and is conducted at the Sports Tech Research Centre in close collaboration with several companies.
The project will create conditions for the region's companies to continue to be successful in the market and be ahead of the development in their respective segments. Through the use of the laboratories at the Sports Tech Research Centre for innovative product development, companies can strengthen their development opportunities.
The initiative contributes to a rewarding exchange of knowledge between business and academia, where the academy also receives relevant research questions. Which, in turn, strengthens the Sports Tech Research Centre’s position as a center for innovative product development with test and lab environments focused on industry specific testing, composite product testing and advanced prototype production. Where mainly the three laboratories - additive manufacturing (3D print), materials testing and wind tunnel are included.
STII - Sports Tech Innovation Initiative is a three-year project with a total budget of SEK 16 million with stakeholders such as Mid Sweden University, Östersund Municipality, participating companies and the Swedish Agency for Economic and Regional Growth.
