MiLo Water
Pollution in water can affect both people and society. In MiLo Water, the researchers will build on the technologies and methods developed in the previous project MiLo to be able to identify and measure harmful substances in difficult environments.
We want to further develop methods for identifying and measuring heavy metals and gas, such as mercury, chromium, cadmium, and methane in water. The project will also develop the ability to measure leachate from landfills and mines for the identification and measurement of heavy metals.
In the project, the existing demonstrator, from MiLo, developed for measurement in fibre banks will be further developed and optimised for measuring with higher accuracy in fiber banks and also for other applications, such as storm water wells, leachate from landfills and leakage of mercury from poison barrels on the seabed.
There is also a need for the region’s companies to be able to measure and prevent emissions of methane, a gas that greatly contributes to global warming. The results from MiLo Water will therefore be used to develop a demonstrator for methane measurement.
The project aims to increase and strengthen research and development skills in the region within measurement technology and environmental monitoring. Increased knowledge of environmental measurements in water is also linked to Härnösand municipality’s Bothnia Sweden initiative on a maritime cluster.
Milo Water is a continuation of MiLo
During 2019-2021, the MiLo innovation project was run by Mid Sweden University together with some 20 companies. The project has focused on environmental measurement and developed new technology and knowledge about how measurement technology can be used to create new products and services, increase sustainability, and contribute to increased growth of companies in the region. MiLo has also increased the ability to continuously measure environmental data with advanced sensors, which increases efficiency, creates the ability to monitor development over time and to visualise data in a better way.
We are now building on the results of the project through the research project MiLo Water, where we will focus on environmental measurement in water.
