Intimate Partner Homicide among Young People
Even though research has shown that intimate partner homicide is a serious societal issue, information about how this crime is characterised among youth is still lacking. The aim of this research project is therefore to explore lethal partner violence among young people.
Intimate partner homicide is one of the most common types of lethal violence in Sweden and has for a long time been considered a serious public health problem. Knowledge about how intimate partner homicide is characterised among young people is however lacking. The aim of this project is therefore to remedy this gap in research by exploring intimate partner homicide among young people, where young people are defined as people under the age of 26.
The research is funded by the Swedish Gender Equality Agency and is conducted in collaboration between Mid Sweden University and Karolinska Institutet, where Karolinska Institutet is the principal institution of the project. The project will last for a year and during this time, we will explore what characterises lethal partner violence among young people between 1990 and 2017 in Sweden. We will also examine how intimate partner homicide among young people differ from intimate partner homicide committed against older people, as well as explore how lethal intimate partner violence among youth has changed over time.
As such, the project will provide a deeper understanding for intimate partner homicide among young people which will also provide better opportunities to prevent this type of lethal violence in the future.
