Fighting forest damage in Mid‑Norrland
The forest is a key natural resource for the region and is expected to be an important component of the transition to a bio-based economy.
Existing forecasts indicate a great potential for increased production of forest raw material. However, these forecasts do not take into account the risks of increasing forest damage as a factor in the future climate. Based on the dialogue that has taken place within the regional Forest Injury Network, a number of issues and need for knowledge have been identified.
Following the major epidemic outbreaks of bark beetle in recent years, there is a concrete, almost acute, need to further develop and implement effective catching methods for monitoring and combating fir bark beetles and double-eyed bark beetles.
