Elite performance in cross‑country skiing and biathlon
Cross-country skiing and biathlon involve complex combinations of physiological, technical and mental qualities. These research projects, through collaborations with the Swedish Ski Association and the Swedish Biathlon Federation, contribute to important performance improvements in elite athletes.
This project comprises a range of research studies that aim to positively impact upon the performance of elite cross-country skiers and biathletes, thereby helping them to succeed on the world stage. Current studies focus on:
- The development of anthropometric and physiological qualities in junior and senior cross-country skiers and biathletes, and how these processes relate to competitive performance.
- The use of different training and technological interventions to develop skiing techniques and sub-techniques, prepare for environmental conditions and improve mental focus.
- Optimising race day: warm-up strategies; pacing, tactics and decision-making during competition; post-race recovery strategies.
- Optimising nutrition through diet, energy availability and supplementation in the lead up to competition, on race day and in recovery.
