Sustainable solutions for cross‑border events
This pilot project aims to strengthen the networking and knowledge exchange between Mid Sweden University and Nord University. The project partners will work on creating the preconditions for the development of sustainable sport events within the cross-border area between Ă–stersund and Trondheim.
The researchers from Mid Sweden University and Nord University will evaluate the event sector's needs and opportunities for development, testing and implementation of sustainable innovative solutions for major sport events in the cross-border area.
The pilot project is co-financed by the EU program Interreg Sweden-Norway and Norwegian IR-funding. The initiative shall contribute to the strategic goals of sustainable tourism development, as well as the recovery and growth of the tourism industry.
The two universities will work closely with representatives of the counties, regions, municipalities and private actors in tourism, food, transport and innovation.
– The ongoing pandemic has a tremendous negative impact on both the tourism industry and event sector, and apart from many other things, has led to the cancellation of events and closed border between Sweden and Norway. Many are hoping for a speedy recovery. At the same time, we understand the time has come to make changes necessary to achieve climate goals. There is also a great opportunity to develop a sustainable event sector, both for the environment, society and entrepreneurs. We need collaboration, knowledge and innovation to realize this opportunity, says project manager Tatiana Chekalina.
